oh come on, i'm all for a catholic who likes his drink (is there any other kind) but as someone in the medical profession you've got to admit that the election of a more conservative pope than John Paul II will not be good for the world community affected by AIDS.
As the head of the Catholic faith, he has to stick by the guns of orthodoxy. Do I think condoms should be distributed through out Africa? Sure. Do I think it will make a difference. Yes, somewhat. The bigger problem is the lifestyles. And I'm don't trying to get on a high horse here. What you see in Africa will happen in Latin America. In the next ten years, AIDS will spread like fire down south. What Africa needs is help. Medical help, orphan help. And Latin America needs to adhere by their faith. But they don't do that anyways, condoms or not. That's human nature.
As far as saying that Benedict XVI is more conservative than John Paul II, I would say that they were very like-minded in their theology. And to think that the Holy See will become more liberal toward the prevailent global mood...
